The 2025 edition of Africa’s Travel Indaba, held from May 13 to 15 at Durban’s Inkosi Albert Luthuli International Convention Centre, was a vibrant celebration of the continent’s tourism potential. Under the theme “Unlimited Africa,” the event brought together industry leaders, innovators, and stakeholders to showcase Africa’s diverse offerings and discuss the future of travel on the continent.
The opening ceremony set an inspiring tone, with Deputy President Paul Mashatile declaring, “Our theme, ‘Unlimited Africa’, is not just a statement; it is a bold declaration of Africa’s promise and possibilities. It speaks of an Africa unbound by old stereotypes, an Africa driven by its own ambitions and solutions.” Minister of Tourism Patricia de Lille echoed this sentiment, emphasizing that the Indaba is “a catalyst for inclusive growth, job creation, and sustainable development, not only in South Africa but throughout Africa.”
This year’s Indaba saw participation from 1,348 exhibitors representing 27 African countries, including newcomers Chad, St Helena, and Burkina Faso. Over 1,037 international buyers from 55 countries attended, engaging in more than 24,500 pre-scheduled meetings—a record-breaking figure that underscores the event’s significance in fostering business relationships.
The economic impact on Durban was substantial, with the event contributing an estimated R574 million to the city’s GDP. Direct spending exceeded R232 million, and over 2,000 jobs were created, particularly benefiting youth and local communities.
Technology emerged as a central theme, with discussions highlighting its role in shaping the future of tourism. Innovations in artificial intelligence, digital marketing, and data analytics were showcased, encouraging businesses to embrace technological advancements to enhance customer experiences and operational efficiency.
Tshomo Divine Travels was honored to be among the exhibitors, engaging in meaningful meetings with buyers from the USA, Japan, New Zealand, Australia, Brazil, and China. Connections were also established with product owners from Uganda, Mauritius, Seychelles, and Brazil, laying the groundwork for future collaborations.
As Africa celebrates Africa Month, the 2025 Travel Indaba served as a powerful platform to showcase the continent’s authentic experiences and boundless opportunities. The event not only reinforced Africa’s position as a premier global travel destination but also highlighted the collective strength and unity of its people in driving the tourism sector forward.
